Corrections and Public Health:

The Society of Correctional Physicians (SCP) was formed in 1993 to provide a forum for the support, education, and professional development of physicians delivering health care in a correctional setting.  

The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) is an international public health agency with 100 years of experience in working to improve health and living standards of the countries of the Americas.

The Center for Disease Control This U.S. government agency creates collaboration between public health organizations and the criminal justice system by providing information on correctional health care issues to health care providers, the people they serve, and the general public.

The American Correctional Association is the oldest and largest international correctional association in the world.  ACA serves all disciplines within the corrections  profession and is dedicated to excellence in every aspect of the field.

The mission of the National Commission on Correctional Health Care is to improve the quality of health care in jails, prisons and juvenile confinement facilities.

The mission of the American Correctional Health Services Association (ACHSA) is to be the voice of the correctional health care profession, and serve as an effective forum for communication addressing current issues and needs confronting correctional health care.

Infectious Diseases in Corrections Report (IDCR), a forum for correctional problem solving, targets correctional administrators and HIV/AIDS and hepatitis care providers including physicians, nurses, outreach workers, and case managers.


Our Partners:

Florida International Volunteer Corps (FAVA/CA) provides training and technical assistance in Central America and the Caribbean through many programs.

Jamaica AIDS Support currently conducts the only comprehensive sexual and reproductive health programme in the prison system with the additional aim of heightening awareness surrounding HIV/AIDS and the care and support of HIV positive prisoners.

Alternative Chance/Chans Altenativ sponsors a library in Haiti's National Penitentiary and works in partnership with Health Through Walls, providing limited health care in the National Penitentiary. 

The Institute for Criminal Justice Healthcare serves to integrate public health and the Criminal Justice System through education, research, technology and dialogue.

Nova Southeastern University fosters inquiry, research, and creative professional activity, by uniting faculty and students in acquiring and applying knowledge in clinical community, and professional settings.
